An awesome example of new technology by United Visual Artists (UK)
http://www.uva.co.uk/archives/49
V&A and Playstation® present ‘Volume’, created by United Visual Artists and onepointsix as part of thePlaystation®season. Photographs by John Adrian.
“A luminous interactive installation has transformed the V&A’s John Madejski Garden this winter. Volume is a sculpture of light and sound, an array of light columns positioned dramatically in the centre of the garden.
Volume responds spectacularly to human movement, creating a series of audio-visual experiences. Step inside and see your actions at play with the energy fields throughout the space, triggering a brilliant display of light and sound.”
More of their work can be found at http://www.uva.co.uk/

Today we got into a discussion about ‘new technologies’ as an extension of human senses i.e. sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste. How are technologies used to enhance the senses? How are they used to replicate them?
In particular, we discussed new technologies in relation to the Eye.
Visual stimulation. Visual interpretation. Creating identities via visual impression.
This related directly to the art of photography – Capturing and recording a moment in time, for ones-self or to share with others, to communicate an event, thought, idea, memory.
Although the technologies related to photography are developing at an incredible rate in terms of precision, speed, usability, accessibility, durability, cost, production, and more, the basic concept behind taking a photo has not changed.
Now for some more investigation…
I have posted some of my own captured-moments under ‘curiouser & curiouser’.

In the twenty-first century, music and design will become harmonised.
A continuity of expression. Continually evolving strands of thought that link together. Breaking out of the prison bars of rigid meters. Departing from all that is standard and cliché.
Harmony becomes melody becomes harmony. Melody becomes thought.
It equates with the freedom to be as you please, as long as you listen to others and work with them to develop your own individual harmony.
A unique interaction occurs between the players – each deeply in tune with the flow, direction and needs of fellow players.
Words. Music. Colours. Shapes.
These are all interpreted by the individual.
All information is equal in the art of expression.
A sound that expresses reality.
Design that expresses the imagination.

when i sit alone, upon my couch
my head and neck begin to slouch
thoughts seep out, up from my brain
into a cloud of thinking rain
and shower down upon the floor
a tide that flows up to the door
and waves of mind, of dreams, of notions
crash and foam like falls, like oceans
they pound the lock to find a way
to flood the stairs and meet the day
but ideas they are, and so their fate
is to stay contained, evaporate
until more clouds begin to form
and burst into another storm
i watch the water ebb and flow
and hope that i will never know
a day without some clouds or rain
for mindless sunshine i disdain
